Puget Sound Rustbuckets 2000
Photos Graciously Donated By Thomas Mitchell
Comment by Gus Blazek. See all the photos here.
We met at the shrine of BMW partsdom, Bill Proud's house in Kent. If you've heard BeePee's accent, you'll know why he lives in Kent. |
Left: Nice butts! That's photographer Thomas Mitchell's Inka '73 CSL on the left, and Gus Blazek's '73 Bavaria in Riviera on the right. Behind the CSL is Paul Ratliff's Chamonix Bavaria, been in his family since his uncle bought new it in '73 and veteran of track days and autocrosses.
Right: Thomas got the best picture of Gus Blazek's '73 Bavaria ever seen. I know, we have to display front plates in Washington. Is it any surprise that Thomas sold the CSL and is now looking for a Bavaria? Really, true story. |
Left: On the left, Ron and Bryan Woodruff drove up from Eugene, Oregon in Ron's '73 Sahara Bavaria. This car has a perforated goatskin interior which perfectly matches the exterior color. The Coupers drooled. On the right is meet co-organizer Ken Olsen's '73 CS in Schwarz. Notice how the coupes always have the hood up? At the top of the hill are David Watkins' 2800 (Agave metallic) and Matthew Sullivan's '73 Bavaria in Polaris.
Right: The Hooptiest Bavaria of the meet was Mike Allenbach's '73 in metallic purple. Underneath that winged boot lid is a subwoofer that fills most of the trunk. We didn't ask Mike to fire it up for fear he would vibrate loose a lot of Coupe rust. Befitting any good hot rod, the hood had a trick louver job. He said it runs cooler, too. |
Left: We had to have some kind of competition, so the Councours D'Stringback Driving Glove was conceived.
Right: The competition was fierce. Can you spot the Bavaria drivers? |
Bottom Middle: Twelve cars drove about 25 miles to Remlinger Farms in the Snoqualmie Valley. This is only a portion of the lineup, left to right: Woodruff's '73, Blazek's '73, Olsen's '73, Ratliff's '73 (check out those wheels and tires), Sullivan's '73, and Joe Feldhaus' pristine 2000cs in Riviera, the oldest car in the meet. |
