E3s in the Movies
  • Grand Canyon, which takes place in L.A., starring Danny Glover, Kevin Kline, Steve Martin, a bunch of other people. In the first scene in the movie, Kevin Kline is stuck in Watts with his nice, dead Infiniti (or Lexus, or some such), when a bunch of homies drive up in their completely whited-out Bavaria and act menacingly. A scream!

  • Frauds, filmed in 1993, with Phil Collins playing a free lance insurance investigator. In the film, the couple (the object of Collins' investigation) scammed their insurance company and Collins figures our their scheme. To keep his silence, Collins usurps their silver/blue 2800 and has it equipped with a remote control driving system.

  • The Fan, with Robert DeNiro, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo, is a story about a maniacal SF Giants fan and a baseball player who becomes the object of said fan's murderous psychosis. A kind of "Taxi Driver" with Major League Baseball. In the first five minutes of the movie, DeNiro is in his custom Chevy van driving to work down a steep San Francisco street and, for a fleeting moment, there is a Malaga Bavaria in view. License plates are in full view but I cannot relate the number - too quick. Perhaps a SF Bavaria owner would like to rent the tape or get a DVD of the movie, freeze frame the scene, and see if it is their car and demand royalties.

  • The China Syndrome: Star TV reporter and anti-nuke conscience Jane Fonda (driving a 2002) and befuddled and pouty Plant Supervisor Jack Lemmon in a 3.0S.

  • The Boys from Brazil, US, 1978. Directed by Franklin J. Schaffner. Minor Cast Members: Laurence Olivier, Gregory Peccary, James Mason and that enormous dork, Steve Guttenberg. Star: 1974-ish BMW 2800/3.0S in silver (black center grill). Stars Big Scene: Outside city of Glasberg bar, German mailman hugs and squeezes bar maid, exits scene on bicycle for appointed rounds. Evil man in street follows mailman in E3. Mailman stops at beer bottle storage yard to take a leak. E3 revs up after mailman saunters behind pallets of empty green beer bottles. E3 spins wheels (non-LSD) and hastily drives into pallets smashing pallets and ending the life of mailman. E3 backs out of broken bottle mess. Nary a scratch. Dusts it's self off and leaves pallet yard. What a performance. Four Stars ****

  • The Pink Panther Strikes Again. 1976. Charles Dreyfus escapes from the mental asylum and tries to kill Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau. He doesn't succeed at first, so he builds a Doom's Day machine and demands that someone else kills Clouseau, or Dreyfus will use the machine to wipe out whole countries... 22 assassins from all over the globe close in on Clouseau in Munich. American assasin drives up to Clouseau's hotel in a Silver 3.0. It is a nice drive to the camera shot. Very dignified. Wasn't that what all the secret agents were driving in 76?
